Coaching is essentially for healthy and functional clients (meaning there are no crucial unaddressed clinical issues) who feel they aren't reaching their full potential in some area of life. This particular client is seeking personal development and self-improvement. It helps the client step back, reflect, and re-engage in life in a way that feels more aligned with their personal goals.
It’s also a professional collaborative relationship with the client to define their specific vision of their future, and to hold them accountable for actively working towards it. While it’s very much a future-oriented, strengths-based, co-creative, and empowering process; the focus is entirely on the client's interests, hindrances, and goals. The ultimate purpose is to challenge, support, inspire and care for the client. It’s designed to re-sharpen the client’s focus and leave them more equipped with the tools and insight that they need to propel their life into a more meaningful place that they can feel proud of.
The distinctive benefit of working with Keshia is that she’s a licensed therapist. Although the client’s work will be strictly coaching, her capacity of intuitive discernment and understanding is unparalleled in that she can notice unconventional ways you might be getting consciously or subconsciously trapped that otherwise might be missed by a coach without endorsed training and expert knowledge in the human condition.
Counseling and Psychotherapy Is Different from Coaching
Counseling and Psychotherapy focuses to identify, diagnose, and treat the symptoms and root causes of presenting mental health problems, ranging from mild to severe, and oftentimes this involves delving into past issues, patterns, and traumas. Counseling is a health care service. The purpose of counseling involves alleviating symptoms, understanding the underlying dynamics that creates the symptoms, changing dysfunctional behaviors which result in the form of disorders, and developing new strategies for successfully coping with the psychological challenges which we all face.
Keshia’s method for the client’s healing process focuses on the person as a whole; while covering aspects of the mind, body and spirit, taking into consideration their physical, emotional, social and spiritual well-being. She uses an eclectic-integrated holistic approach with therapies such as talk, cognitive behavioral, solution-focused, person-centered and reality; combined with techniques of mind and body therapy, somatic therapy, energy therapy and spiritual therapy. These strategies are based on the client’s need and are designed to encourage and promote a greater sense of self-awareness to better understand the connections between their body, mind, and relationships and how these elements play a role in mental health and whole-life balance.
Intuitive Therapy is different from Traditional Therapy
Intuitive Therapy differs from Traditional Therapy in that through using intuition and offering intuitive feedback, Keshia is able to access a deeper layer of consciousness that the client may already sense but may not be consciously aware of. This is where the emotions are stored and where the client may feel "stuck". Traditional Therapy often focuses on the conscious mind or what is already "known" by the client.
Traditional Therapy uses a more traditional language; Intuitive Therapy uses a more mindful and spiritual language, based upon energy. Through Intuitive Therapy, She guides the client deeper into the unconscious layers of stored emotions to bring to awareness what needs to be released.
Intuitive Therapy
Intuitive Therapy is a form of integrative psychotherapy that utilizes intuition to uncover what the client senses but may not be consciously aware of. Keshia uses her intuition in order to access this unconscious information and bring it to conscious awareness. She works from an energetic; mind, body, spirit (holistic mental health) approach that assists the client to uncover, articulate, and release the source of the presenting problem.
This form of therapy is for anyone seeking guidance or support in their life. Clients do not need to know why they are feeling a certain way, only that they would like to feel differently.
The flow of the client’s session is never the same. The client may be guided into a session of talk therapy or Keshia may ask them to sit in silence while she works on their energy. “Energy” therapy is where she moves the misplaced or absorbed energy. “Misplaced energy can have its origin from many different sources, ancestral lineage, childhood trauma, negative thought forms or life experiences—like trauma.”
Other times it’s like being guided on a journey of self-discovery and understanding. Additional treatment methods using movement in activities like dance, music and color therapy to process whatever feelings arise may be incorporated. As she and the client talk, the client will be coached to be more reflective, and it often leads to useful conclusions. Energy work allows clients to ground and be fully present in their bodies, listening to what the body, mind and soul are disclosing and manifesting as symptoms of anxiety and depression. Energy therapy is soothing…calming….healing…..balancing….simple….harmless and compatible with various belief systems.
Treatments are normally done in person and through distance; where the energy is sent virtually or remotely.
Reiki and Healing Touch Therapy: A Complementary Alternative Medicine method
Complementary Alternative Medicine (CAM) is an approach of healing that is being explored and used more widely alongside conventional medicine practice. CAM focuses on exploring the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual methods of healing.
Keshia takes on a more holistic well-rounded approach with her expanded services; to bring care, support and healing to her clients. That means she explores CAM techniques to complement her existing counseling and psychotherapeutic services. She is always excited to introduce this form of Healing to her clients. It’s for the treatment of the body, mind, and spirit.
Clinical Uses
Records of Reiki’s use are growing as Western medicine seeks ways to provide care in a holistic manner. Reiki is currently being offered not only for management of physical pain but emotional pain as well. According to a survey conducted by Health Forum, a subsidiary of the American Hospital Association, 42 percent of the responding hospitals in the United States and 70 percent of the responding hospitals in Canada offer complementary and alternative treatments including Reiki and healing touch. Reiki is used in the treatment of anxiety, depression, trauma, stress and memory loss, as well as in palliative and oncological care.
Reiki is offered in hospitals, clinics and hospice settings. For example, the Integrative Medicine Department of Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital offers and teaches Reiki to patients and caregivers. In a 2010 study conducted by Yale University and published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, researchers Rachel Friedman, Matthew Burg, Pamela Miles, Forrester Lee and Rachel Lampert found that 20 minutes of Reiki significantly improved mood and variable heart rate following a heart attack. This was above and beyond control for other variables. (Cheryl Fisher April 30, 2015, Counseling Today Publication).
Based upon evaluation and assessment of your company, group or individual needs, a customized strategy and plan of action will be developed.
